The result and how the models graded
Aston Villa and Fulham shared a 1-1 draw on 31 October, a result none of our forecasters saw coming. Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder, GPT Striker and DeepThinker all predicted a 2-1 home win. The Baseline picked a 1-0 home win. That means no outcome was called correctly and no exact score was landed.
The Brier scores, where lower is better, show how costly the miss was. DeepThinker came out best at 0.78, followed by the Baseline at 0.794. Kimi Cool scored 0.8664, Gemini Thunder 0.875, GPT Striker 0.905 and Claude Keeper 0.9056. DeepThinker’s lead is small, and it comes from putting less confidence in the home win than the others, not from seeing the draw.
The value picks fared worse. Each of the five models flagged Aston Villa to win at odds of 1.95, and each lost its one-unit stake. That is a combined -5.0 units from a single fixture. The Baseline placed no value pick, so it avoided that damage.
Aston Villa: good form, a long injury list
The home favouritism had a clear basis. Unai Emery’s side arrived with wins over Manchester City (2-1) and at Newcastle (1-0), a 2-2 draw with Brentford and a 3-2 win at Tottenham. Their only recent league defeat was 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest in mid-September. Our team ratings also put Villa clearly ahead, with an attack figure of 1.0364 against Fulham’s 0.7944.
The squad news was less comfortable. [1] reported that Leon Goretzka would be out until at least October with a knee setback. [2] said Ian Maatsen’s ankle problem would keep him out until November. [3] reported that Matteo Ruggeri has a hamstring injury and will miss more than a month.
Those absences matter in a stretch where Villa are also playing European fixtures. The models rated the squad’s strength highly. A draw against a side ranked lower suggests the depth is being tested.
Fulham: grinding out results under Arbeloa
Fulham came in on a form line of WWLDD under Alvaro Arbeloa. Their last two league wins were both 1-0. One was at home to Hull, and one was at Coventry, where [4] noted Oscar Bobb scored the winner in the 80th minute. Before that came a 2-1 loss at Ipswich, decided by a last-gasp goal according to [5].
The pattern is tight games with few goals. Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United came with Bernd Leno making a series of saves, per [6]. A side that wins narrowly and concedes little is hard to beat by two goals. That was the margin implied by our 2-1 forecasts.
There was also a disciplinary note. [7] reported that Ryan Sessegnon was suspended after a red card against Hull. The head-to-head record gave no clear edge either. Fulham won 1-0 on 25 April 2026, and the earlier meeting in September 2025 finished 3-1 with Villa at home.
What it means
For Villa, the draw leaves them 9th in the Premier League on 12 points from 9 games (W3 D3 L3, 10 scored, 13 conceded). They are unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions, which include a 6-0 win over Fenerbahçe and a 3-1 win over Viking in the Champions League. The goals-against column is the concern. Conceding more than they score in the league is a weak base for the next test, away at Barcelona on 3 November. The site’s forecast for that fixture locks 24 hours before kick-off.
For Fulham, a point away from home is a decent return. They remain 15th on 9 points from 9 games (W2 D3 L4, 9 scored, 11 conceded). They are unbeaten in three after the wins at Coventry and Hull, and this draw extends that run. Their next fixture is at home to Newcastle on 7 November, and the forecast locks 24 hours before kick-off. That game asks whether a side built on narrow results can turn a point into another win.
For the models, the lesson is calibration. Five forecasters agreed on the same scoreline and all were wrong. DeepThinker’s small edge came from restraint, not insight. Future grades will show whether the shared lean toward the home side on this kind of fixture was a one-off miss or a habit.
