FC Barcelona's Dominant Start to the Season Under Hansi Flick

Barcelona’s Unbeaten Streak and Offensive Firepower

FC Barcelona has kicked off the season in spectacular fashion, maintaining an undefeated record across all competitions. The team has secured seven wins in LaLiga, scoring an impressive 31 goals while conceding only seven, placing them at the top of the league table with 21 points. Their dominance extends to the Champions League, where they defeated Feyenoord 5-1 in their opening match ^[1]. This remarkable start has seen the club net a total of 36 goals in just eight matches, highlighting their potent offensive capabilities ^[2].

Manager Hansi Flick has been a pivotal figure in this success, earning the LaLiga Manager of the Month award for September ^[3]. Flick’s tactical decisions, such as deploying Raphinha as a false nine, have paid dividends, with the player scoring 14 goals, including three braces and two hat-tricks ^[1]. This strategic shift has even been noted and emulated by other top coaches ^[4]. The team’s strong performance has generated significant optimism around the club ^[5].

Key Players and New Arrivals Making an Impact

Beyond Raphinha’s goal-scoring exploits, several players have been instrumental in Barcelona’s early season form. Young sensation Lamine Yamal has been a revelation, contributing eight goals and six assists in eight appearances ^[1]. His exceptional talent has led some to predict a future Ballon d’Or for the young forward ^[6]. New signings Rodri, Adeyemi, and Anthony Gordon have also adapted quickly to the team’s style of play and are performing well ^[1]. Gordon, in particular, has expressed that his football intelligence is more appreciated in Barcelona’s system compared to his time in England ^[7].

However, the squad is not without its challenges. Several key players are currently sidelined with injuries, including Andreas Christensen (muscle injury), Eric García (knee issue), Frenkie de Jong, Roony Bardghji, and Joan García (knee discomfort) ^[2], ^[8]. Despite these setbacks, the team’s depth and the strong performances of players like Xavi Espart and João Cancelo at left-back, and Eric García’s importance in Flick’s system, have helped maintain their high level of play ^[2], ^[8].

Managerial Stability and Upcoming Fixtures

Hansi Flick’s impact extends beyond on-field tactics; he recently renewed his contract with Barcelona until June 2028, with an optional additional year, signaling long-term stability for the club ^[9]. Off the pitch, there have been some administrative changes, with Sergio Serrano temporarily assuming financial responsibilities following Manel Del Río’s departure ^[10]. Club president Joan Laporta is also actively involved in European football governance, attending the European Football Clubs annual assembly ^[11].

Looking ahead, FC Barcelona is set to face Sabah FC in Baku on November 25, 2026 ^[12]. Before that, a highly anticipated Clásico against Real Madrid is scheduled for October 25th, with tickets already on sale ^[5]. The team’s current form suggests they are well-prepared for these upcoming challenges, aiming to continue their impressive run.

What it means

FC Barcelona’s position at the top of La Liga with 21 points from seven games, boasting a perfect record of seven wins, underscores their dominant start to the season. Their impressive goal difference of 31 goals scored against only 7 conceded highlights both their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. The recent results, including a 3-1 away win against Sevilla and a resounding 7-2 victory at home against Real Racing Club de Santander, demonstrate their consistent high performance. The 5-1 win against Feyenoord in the Champions League further solidifies their strong form in European competition. This exceptional run sets a high bar for their upcoming fixture against Sabah FC, where they will look to maintain their momentum and continue their winning streak.
