Three wins in eight days
Bournemouth’s week has changed the tone of their season. According to [1], they won three matches in eight days, beating Sunderland, AC Milan and Manchester United, and scored eight goals without conceding in that run. Two of those wins were in the Premier League and one was in Europe.
The Milan game was the midweek highlight. [2] confirms Bournemouth beat AC Milan in the Europa League, and [3] records the score as 3-0 to Bournemouth, with Mike Maignan sent off for Milan. A red card for the opposition goalkeeper always flatters a result to some degree, so that win deserves a caveat.
The Premier League results need no such caveat. The 2-0 home win over Sunderland on 18 October came eight days before the trip to Old Trafford, and both games ended with a clean sheet. After a heavy defeat at Chelsea (1-5) on 10 October, that is a sharp turnaround in defensive output.
How Old Trafford went
The 3-0 win at Manchester United was the most convincing result of the run. [4] reports goals from Rayan, a second created by Adrien Truffert’s assist, and a late finish from Evanilson. Rayan’s opener set the tone. Evanilson’s late goal made sure the margin matched the balance of the game.
The home side’s afternoon was complicated by its own selection. The same report says Bruno Fernandes was left out of the starting line-up by Michael Carrick and did not come on as a substitute. [5] ran an opinion column on the defeat that focused on that decision and on the club’s wider problems. That is United’s story to untangle. For Bournemouth, the facts are simple: they went to a difficult ground and kept a clean sheet while scoring three.
One detail to treat carefully: one source describes Evanilson’s goal as the “late winning goal” after Rayan put Bournemouth ahead. The 3-0 scoreline is the better-sourced account, so Evanilson’s goal reads as the closing one rather than a decider.
Who is driving the run
The attacking contributions are spread across the side. Rayan scored at Old Trafford, Truffert supplied the assist for the second, and Evanilson finished the move that made it three. That is a forward, a full-back and a striker all contributing in one game.
A further note comes from Troy Deeney’s team-of-the-week column on [1]. It says Marcus Tavernier has played as a number 10 for Bournemouth and scored in their recent wins, including the one against Manchester United. That is a single pundit’s account, and the match reports in our sources do not list Tavernier among the scorers at Old Trafford, so it is best read as praise for his role rather than a precise goal log. What it does suggest is that Tavernier’s move into the number 10 position has helped the side link midfield and attack.
There is no injury or line-up information in the verified sources for Bournemouth, so nothing here assumes who is available for the next game. The run rests on results and the shape of the performances, not on a confirmed team sheet.
What it means
The league table shows how much work remains. Bournemouth are 13th in the Premier League with 9 points from 8 games (W2 D3 L3), with 12 goals scored and 13 conceded. The goal difference of -1 is a reminder that the 5-1 loss at Chelsea and the 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool on 20 September still weigh on the numbers. The 2-2 draw with Brentford on 12 September completes the picture of a side that has been inconsistent.
The last two league results, a 2-0 win over Sunderland and a 3-0 win at United, are Bournemouth’s best consecutive league performances in the recent record: five goals for, none against. A club that had conceded in each of its previous three league games has now shut out two opponents in a row.
The next fixture asks a different question. Bournemouth host Leeds United on 31 October. Away at a struggling United the task was to defend and strike on the break. At home, with the ball likely to be theirs for longer, the test is whether the same sharpness holds when the opponent expects to be attacked. The site’s forecast for the match locks 24 hours before kick-off, and we will grade it publicly once the result is in. Another clean sheet would show the Old Trafford win was a pattern and not a one-off.
