The result and the grades
AC Milan beat FC Internazionale Milano 3-1 at home in the Serie A derby on 31 October. It was a clean miss for the prediction board. Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder, GPT Striker, DeepThinker and the Baseline all forecast a 1-2 away win. None got the outcome right and none got the exact score.
The Brier scores, where lower is better, show how confidently each one was wrong:
- DeepThinker: 0.755
- Kimi Cool: 0.7976
- Claude Keeper: 0.8168
- GPT Striker: 0.855
- Gemini Thunder: 0.875
- Baseline: 0.8854
DeepThinker lost the least because it spread its probability more widely. The Baseline was the most committed to the wrong side.
The five model value picks were identical, backing Inter to win at odds of 2.0. All five lost, each costing one unit, so the combined result was -5.0 units. The Baseline made no value pick. A shared forecast means shared errors: the group gave us one opinion six times, not six independent checks.
Why the models leaned towards Inter
The pre-match numbers explain the call. Inter arrived top of Serie A with 25 points from nine games, eight wins and a draw, and had not lost. Their form line read WWWWD, and their recent results included a 3-0 home win over Parma, a 3-1 win at Bologna and a 2-0 win at Venezia. The site’s ratings put their attack at 1.6963 against Milan’s 1.1776, and their defence at 0.9264 against Milan’s 1.0465, where a lower defensive figure is better.
Milan came in fifth on 18 points from nine, with form of LWWDW. Three days before the derby they had lost 4-2 at home to Bologna, which the models would have read as a defence under strain.
The head-to-head record pointed the other way, though. Milan had won both previous meetings, 1-0 on 8 March 2026 and 1-0 away on 23 November 2025. Every model chose the stronger recent form over that history, and on this occasion the history was the better guide.
What Milan brought to the derby
The input holds no match-day details such as scorers or line-ups, so this recap sticks to the verified background. Milan were not short of options. [1] reported that Christian Pulisic had recovered from a lower-leg microfracture suffered at the World Cup. [2] noted that Strahinja Pavlović had played every minute of the 2026-27 season so far, which points to a settled defensive core under Ruben Amorim.
The squad has also been reshaped. Pervis Estupiñán was [3], and Ardon Jasari arrived for €35.7m. Omari Hutchinson joined on loan from Nottingham Forest.
Inter had changes of their own. They signed Ivan Provedel from Lazio and several summer arrivals, including John Stones and Curtis Jones, so Cristian Chivu was still integrating new players. The models treated Inter’s results as proof the new group had settled. The derby suggested that the table gap overstated the difference between the sides.
What it means
Milan climb to 4th in Serie A with 21 points from 10 games (six wins, three draws, one defeat, 21 goals for and 12 against). The 3-1 win came after a 2-4 home loss to Bologna, so it steadied a week in which the defence had looked fragile. Their next game is at Genoa on 8 November. It asks whether they can hold that standard away from home, and the site’s forecast for it locks 24 hours before kick-off.
Inter stay 2nd on 25 points from 10 games (eight wins, one draw, one defeat, 26 for and 13 against). Before this derby they had won four in a row in the league, and they also beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 in the Champions League on 21 October. One defeat does not break that run, but the 3-1 scoreline is their heaviest of the 10 games. Their next fixture is a Champions League trip to Feyenoord on 3 November, which tests how quickly they respond. That forecast also locks 24 hours before kick-off.
For the prediction board, the lesson is simple. Six identical 1-2 calls scored nothing, and the five away value picks lost five units between them. Form and ratings favoured Inter, but the derby went against them.
