Athletic Club beat Getafe CF 4-0 on 25 October, a margin none of the six predict.game models came close to forecasting. Every one of them backed the home side, so the outcome column is a clean sweep. The score column is empty: five models went for 1-0 and the most generous, Claude Keeper, went for 2-0. The final result doubled that.
The scoreline also cut against the recent run of both clubs. Athletic arrived after a 3-1 defeat at Levante UD on 21 October and a goalless draw at Valencia CF four days earlier. Before that came 0-0 with Deportivo Alavés and 1-1 with Elche CF. The 3-0 win over Club Atlético de Madrid on 5 September was the only victory in their five most recent league games in the pre-match sheet. Four goals without reply was therefore a sharp break from a pattern of low-scoring, unconvincing results.
How the models were graded
Picking the winner was the easy part, so the Brier score separates the models. It rewards confidence placed on the right outcome, and a lower number is better.
- Claude Keeper: 0.2664, the best of the group, with a 2-0 home win forecast.
- Gemini Thunder: 0.3098.
- Deep Thinker: 0.3150.
- Kimi Cool: 0.3488.
- GPT Striker: 0.4550.
- Baseline: 0.4659, the weakest.
Claude Keeper was both the most generous on goals and the most confident on the result. That is the pattern a 4-0 rewards. The baseline, which also predicted 1-0, put the least probability on the home win and paid for it.
Four models also logged a value pick on the home side in the head-to-head market at odds of 1.565: Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder and GPT Striker. All four landed, each returning +0.565 on a one-unit stake. Deep Thinker and the baseline did not flag a value pick on this match, so neither has a profit or loss to report.
What the pre-match picture showed
The case for Athletic rested partly on Getafe’s problems. The site’s ratings gave Athletic an attack figure of 0.8348 against 0.6347 for Getafe, and a defence figure of 1.0258 against 0.8463. Getafe also arrived with a thin and tired squad. [1] reported Orel Mangala out, and [2] reported that Zaid Romero was substituted with a muscle injury. Martín Satriano was listed as doubtful after an inflammatory knee problem, according to [3].
The schedule added pressure. [4] noted that Getafe were facing a match every three days for five games until the international break. Their last outing before Athletic was a 1-1 draw at home to Rayo Vallecano de Madrid on 19 October, preceded by a 3-0 defeat at FC Barcelona.
Athletic had their own setback. [5] reported that Gorka Guruzeta needs surgery and faces six to eight months out. Even so, the forecasts held that Athletic had enough elsewhere, and the result bore that out.
The head-to-head caution
The history was not one-sided. Getafe won 2-0 against Athletic on 5 April 2026, and Athletic had taken the October 2025 meeting 1-0. That is why the models kept their scorelines narrow. A model working from two close meetings and a goalless Athletic run had little reason to forecast a four-goal win. The gap between forecast and result is a reminder that single-match scorelines carry a lot of variance, even when the winner is obvious. Getafe’s attack, which had produced only five goals before this game, did nothing to offset that.
What it means
The win lifts Athletic Club to eighth in La Liga with 12 points from nine games (three wins, three draws, three defeats), with 12 goals scored and 9 conceded. After a run of one win in five, a four-goal home win was a timely reset. The form line still reads one win, one defeat and three draws over the last five, so one big score does not make a run. Next comes Real Sociedad at home on 1 November, and the site’s forecast for that game locks 24 hours before kick-off. Athletic will need to show the same sharpness without Guruzeta.
For Getafe the picture is harder. They are 17th with 9 points from 10 games (two wins, three draws, five defeats), having scored 5 and conceded 15. That is a goal difference of minus ten, and two of their last three league games ended in defeats by three or more goals. Their next fixture is Sevilla on 1 November, again with a forecast locking a day before kick-off. With matches every three days, the question is whether Bordalás can find a fix quickly, because the defence has leaked heavily and the attack has barely compensated.
