Deportivo La Coruña host Osasuna at the Estadio Abanca-Riazor on Monday 2 November (20:00 UTC) in round 11 of La Liga. The table barely separates them: both have 11 points from 10 matches, Deportivo in 13th and Osasuna in 15th. Neither side arrives with momentum, and the contest looks like a test of which flawed team is less flawed on the night.
Deportivo: plenty of draws, few wins
The hosts have won twice, drawn five times and lost three, scoring 13 goals and conceding 13. That balance tells you they are hard to beat but short of cutting edge. Their form line reads LDLDL. They lost 1-0 at Atlético Madrid on 24 October, drew 1-1 with Levante at home, lost 3-2 at Real Sociedad, drew 1-1 with Betis and lost 1-0 to Sevilla. None of their last three home games produced a win.
The summer rebuild has brought real names. [1] reported that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was drawn by the club’s family-like atmosphere. The Guardian [2] that Adama Traoré arrived on a free transfer. José Giménez has also arrived and, per [3], has become a captain. Marc Casadó was signed too, and [4] reported that Lorenzo Amatucci will be a starter. The squad has quality. Turning it into home wins is the open question for Antonio Hidalgo’s side.
Osasuna’s problem on the road
Osasuna’s season splits sharply by venue. They have won three, drawn two and lost five, with 10 goals scored and 20 conceded, and their defensive rating of 1.27 is the weaker of the two sides’ defensive numbers. [5] notes that they have not won away since their August victory at Celta. They have lost four away games and conceded 16 goals on the road.
The recent record fits that picture. They lost 2-0 at Sevilla on 26 October, lost 5-2 at Betis on 11 October and lost 4-0 at Atlético Madrid in mid-September. The one bright spot was a 2-0 home win over Racing Santander on 18 October. [6] described how Ante Budimir scored a penalty inside the first ten minutes, Asier Osambela scored after coming on, Iñigo Arguibide set up a goal after a long run, and Jonathan Dubasin had two goals disallowed early on. That shows Osasuna can create and score, but it came at home. Away from home, the record shows they struggle to keep the ball out of their own net.
What the forecasts say
The Poisson baseline, built from recorded results, makes Deportivo clear favourites. It projects 1.89 expected goals for the hosts against 0.92 for Osasuna, with probabilities of 60.1% home win, 22.0% draw and 17.9% away win. Its most likely score is 1-0. It puts both teams scoring at 51.2% and over 2.5 goals at 53.4%, so a low-scoring game is only slightly more likely than an open one.
The AI models are more cautious and give the draw more weight:
- Claude Keeper: 1-0 home win, 46% / 27% / 27%
- Kimi Cool: 1-0 home win, 42% / 29% / 29%
- Gemini Thunder: 2-1 home win, 45% / 30% / 25%
- GPT Striker: 1-0 home win, 45% / 30% / 25%
- DeepThinker: 1-0 home win, 45% / 30% / 25%
The reasoning is consistent. The models point to Osasuna’s poor away form and leaky defence, plus Deportivo’s new signings. Their lower home-win figures reflect the hosts’ own inconsistency. The models agree on the winner and differ mainly in how much risk they attach to a draw.
What it means
For Deportivo, 13th place and 11 points leave them only just clear of the lower reaches of the table. A home win would lift them above a direct rival and break a run of five league games without victory. Their draw-heavy record shows they are competitive, but at some point they need to convert those draws into wins. This fixture, against the side with the league’s weaker defensive profile on the road, is a good place to do it.
For Osasuna, 15th with a minus-10 goal difference, the question is whether the attacking spark seen against Racing can travel. Their away record suggests it may not. A first road win since August would be a significant swing in their season. The most probable result is a narrow Deportivo win, with a draw the main alternative if the hosts again fail to turn pressure into goals.
