A clean home win against Osasuna
Sevilla’s 2-0 victory over Osasuna in matchday 10 gave the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán something to enjoy. According to [1], it was the club’s third home win of the season and the third time they have kept a clean sheet. Osasuna never found a way back into the game and lost.
Isaac scored the opening goal and Félix Correia added the second. Sevilla started with Lucas Stassin and Isaac as the two forwards, with Isaac playing behind Stassin, and Chidera Ejuke on the right wing. The win was Sevilla’s fifth of the campaign, and [2] notes that the team has scored in every match so far.
Coach Luis García Plaza used his post-match comments to praise the consistency of the side at both ends of the pitch. A solid defensive display and a pair of clear goals made for a controlled performance, and it came at a useful moment, given the heavy schedule that followed.
Fofana and Isaac drive the attack
The player most often mentioned after the game was Youssouf Fofana. [3] reports that the midfielder supplied both assists, one for Isaac Romero and one for Correia. The same piece says García Plaza believes Fofana is still adapting to the team’s style, which suggests there may be more to come from him.
According to [1], Fofana now has one goal and three assists this season, a return that matches Isaac’s. Isaac is also described as the squad’s top scorer despite having made only three starts, which says something about how efficiently he has been used.
The coach likes Isaac in the second-striker role. He said that the player fits it well, although he added that Isaac might also be used in midfield. That comment is reported with low confidence, so it is best read as a possibility rather than a plan. For now, the Stassin-and-Isaac pairing, fed by Fofana, looks like the attacking template that produced goals against Osasuna.
Copa del Rey rotation at Hortaleza
The next job is the Copa del Rey debut at Sporting de Hortaleza. [4] reports that the squad observed a minute’s silence for the Toledo train crash before training. Sevilla have to travel to Madrid for the tie and will play three official matches within one week.
The only confirmed absences are Marcão and Miguel Sierra, both listed as out. Because of the workload, García Plaza plans to rotate and bring in reserve-team players. Iker Muñoz, Manuel Ángel and Ibra Sow have been training with the first team and could make the matchday squad or even the starting XI, although that report is only rated as doubtful.
There is some better news on the fitness front. After the Osasuna game the coach said that Jon Guridi and Giorgi Kochorashvili are training better after spells out. Both updates are tentative, so neither should be assumed to be fit for the cup tie, but extra midfield options would help manage minutes across a busy seven days.
What it means
Sevilla are sixth in La Liga with 17 points from 10 matches, built on five wins, two draws and three defeats. The goal record is level, with 16 scored and 16 conceded, so the table position owes plenty to the results rather than a dominant goal difference.
The recent form is mixed. Before the Osasuna win came a 1-4 defeat at Real Madrid and a 3-3 draw at Levante, and earlier results include a 1-3 home loss to Barcelona and a 1-0 win at Deportivo La Coruña. Across those five matches Sevilla scored eight and conceded ten, so the clean sheet against Osasuna stands out as the exception.
The next league fixture is Getafe against Sevilla on 1 November. The site’s forecast for that game locks 24 hours before kick-off, so no prediction is stated here. What the match asks is whether the defensive organisation from the Osasuna win can survive a rotated cup tie and a short turnaround. If Sevilla get through Hortaleza without injury problems, the sixth-place position gives them a decent base to build on.
