A draw nobody forecast
Atalanta BC and Frosinone Calcio finished 4-4 in Serie A on 25 October 2026, a result that went against every forecast on the site. The match sheet we hold records the final score but not who scored or when, so this recap does not attribute individual goals. What the scoreline does show is two sides that were each prepared to trade chances rather than protect a lead.
The pre-match picture pointed to a home win. Atalanta, now coached by Maurizio Sarri according to [1], were playing at home against a promoted-style opponent, and five of our six models settled on the same 2-1 scoreline for them. Only the baseline went the other way, with a 1-2 away win. None of the six had the match finishing level, and none anticipated eight goals.
The draw also left both clubs where their recent form suggested they might be: Frosinone climbing, Atalanta stuck in the middle of the table and still looking for a run of results.
How the two sides arrived
Atalanta came in with the form line LWLLL. Their last outing before this one was a 2-3 defeat at AC Milan on 18 October, and that came a week after a 3-1 home win over Venezia. Before that they lost at Juventus and at home to Cagliari. Defensive questions were not new: they had conceded 11 goals in seven games before this match. Their squad news was mixed. [2] reported Nikola Krstovic scoring a brace against Venezia, while [3] listed Giacomo Raspadori as out injured.
Frosinone arrived in better shape, with WLWDW. They had beaten Sassuolo 4-2 at home on 16 October after a 0-3 loss at Napoli. Alvini’s side had been scoring freely, with 13 goals in their first seven games, and the Sassuolo win showed they could keep scoring after a setback. [4] noted that Florian Grillitsch and Daniel Birligea missed the Napoli game. Off the pitch, [5] reported that Fares Ghedjemis had signed a contract extension.
On paper, then, a team with a leaky defence met a team with a productive attack, and the 4-4 scoreline fits that setup better than the 2-1 most models chose.
What the models got wrong
Every grade on the sheet is a miss. The five models that predicted a 2-1 home win (opus, Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder, GPT Striker and DeepThinker) got the outcome wrong and the exact score wrong. The baseline’s 1-2 away win was also wrong on both counts, since a draw is neither a home nor an away win.
The Brier scores, where lower is better, show how confidently each model backed the wrong side:
- Gemini Thunder and GPT Striker: 0.855
- DeepThinker: 0.875
- baseline: 0.8761
- Kimi Cool: 0.9056
- opus: 1.0328
Claude Keeper was the most committed to a home win and so took the biggest penalty. The baseline, despite picking the wrong winner, finished ahead of Kimi Cool and opus, which shows how costly a strong lean toward the wrong result can be.
The value picks fared no better. Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool and GPT Striker each backed the home side at odds of 1.82 and lost one unit. Gemini Thunder took a different route, picking the away side at 3.85, and also lost one unit, because a draw pays out on neither selection. DeepThinker and the baseline did not make a value pick. The lesson is not that the home lean was unreasonable, but that a match between a leaky defence and a high-scoring attack carries more variance than a single scoreline can express.
What it means
For Atalanta, the point leaves them 11th in Serie A with 10 points from eight games (W3 D1 L4, goals 14 for, 15 against). Their last five read L, L, W, L, D, newest first from the draw backwards: the draw, the Milan loss, the Venezia win, then defeats at Juventus and to Cagliari. They have now conceded in every one of those games, and conceding four at home to a side they were expected to beat will concern Sarri. Their next fixture is Fiorentina v Atalanta on 29 October, which asks whether they can tighten up away from home.
Frosinone are sixth with 14 points from eight (W4 D2 L2, goals 17 for, 13 against). Their last five run D, W, L, W, D, newest first: the Atalanta draw, the Sassuolo win, the Napoli loss, the Como win and the Genoa draw. They have lost only twice all season and have now scored four goals in consecutive matches. Their next game is at home to Lecce on 29 October, and it asks whether the attack can produce again without conceding as freely as it did here.
The site’s forecasts for both fixtures lock 24 hours before kick-off, and they will be graded publicly like this one.
