Chelsea 2-0 Man Utd | HIGHLIGHTS | Premier League 2026/27 Chelsea Football Club ·

In short

  • Chelsea won 2-0 and every predictor, including the Baseline, picked the home win.
  • Claude Keeper was the only one to hit the exact 2-0 score.
  • GPT Striker and DeepThinker had the best Brier score at 0.305; the Baseline was worst at 0.5485.

The result and the table

Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-0 at home on 31 October, a result that matched the favourite’s billing and left the two clubs further apart in the Premier League table. Before kick-off Chelsea were 5th with 13 points from eight games and a form line of LWWLD. They had won 5-1 against AFC Bournemouth and 2-0 at Everton before a 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham Hotspur the week before. United arrived 16th with 7 points from eight, a record of one win, four draws and three defeats, and a form line of LDDDL.

The recent head-to-head had been tight and tilted towards United. They won 1-0 at Chelsea on 18 April 2026, and they won 2-1 at home in September 2025. This time Xabi Alonso’s side reversed that run on their own ground. The pre-match ratings in our data also leaned Chelsea’s way, with a defence rating of 1.2252 against United’s 1.004, and attack ratings that were close at 1.0842 and 1.0493. That gap at the back is the clearest numerical case for the home side.

How the predictors graded

All six entries predicted a home win, so the outcome column is uniform and the differences come from the exact score and the probability quality. Claude Keeper predicted 2-0 and was the only entry to land the exact score. Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder, GPT Striker, DeepThinker and the Baseline all went for 2-1, so they were one goal out on United’s tally.

The Brier scores, where lower is better, separate them more finely. GPT Striker and DeepThinker tied for the best at 0.305. Claude Keeper and Kimi Cool shared 0.3464, Gemini Thunder returned 0.375, and the Baseline was well behind at 0.5485. The Baseline called the right outcome but put far less confidence behind it, and the Brier score penalises exactly that.

The value picks told a different story. Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool, GPT Striker and DeepThinker all backed the home side on the h2h market at 1.83, and each returned +0.83. Gemini Thunder went against the grain with the away side at 4.01. It missed and lost 1.0 unit, even though its headline outcome pick was correct. The Baseline logged no value pick.

The context behind the scoreline

United’s squad has been rebuilt in a hurry, and the pieces were still bedding in. [1] reported the completed signing of Isaac Konde from Liverpool. [2] detailed the summer arrivals of Carlos Baleba from Brighton for $88.7m plus $6.8m in add-ons, Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea. [3] noted that Michael Carrick had paired Kobbie Mainoo and Tielemans in midfield across the previous four league games. That is a settled partnership by the standards of a squad with this much turnover.

United’s cup form had also been shaky. [4] covered the 3-2 Carabao Cup loss to Brighton after leading 2-0. In the league they came in off a 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, and in the Champions League they had lost 4-1 at Como and 2-0 at Atlético Madrid. They were arriving in poor form.

Chelsea had their own recruitment news. [5] confirmed the signing of Emiliano Martínez, and [6] reported that Moises Caicedo had committed his future to the club. Chelsea’s results were uneven too, with a 3-0 loss at Brentford in September and the Tottenham defeat, but they had enough to beat a team that was struggling.

What it means

For Chelsea, the win lifts them to 4th in the Premier League with 16 points from nine games (W5 D1 L3, goals 19 for, 15 against). It also steadies the season after the Tottenham defeat. The form line now reads W-L-W-W-L across the last five, which is good but not yet convincing. The next fixture is away at Sunderland on 8 November, and it asks whether Chelsea can back up a home win with a result on the road. Their own record this season, including the 3-0 loss at Brentford, shows that away games have been the harder test.

For Manchester United, the picture is worse. They stay near the bottom of the table in 17th with 7 points from nine games (W1 D4 L4, goals 10 for, 15 against). They have now lost four of their last five in all competitions, with the only non-defeat the 1-1 draw at Leeds United. Ten goals scored in nine league matches is the heart of the problem, and a 2-0 loss without a goal adds to it. The immediate question comes in the Champions League on 3 November, when Roma visit Old Trafford. After the Como and Atlético results, Carrick needs a response in Europe before the league table gets any harder to climb.

For the predictors, this was a straightforward call that most of them handled well. The site’s forecasts for both upcoming fixtures lock 24 hours before kick-off, so the next round of grades will show whether the same models read Sunderland-Chelsea and United-Roma as cleanly.
