Lazio arrive as the league’s form side
SS Lazio go to the Mapei Stadium on 27 October (17:30 UTC) in round nine, second in Serie A. Gennaro Gattuso’s side have won seven of their eight league games, drawn one and lost none. That is 22 points, with 16 goals scored and only 5 conceded.
The recent run is strong. Lazio beat Parma 2-1 at home on 24 October, won 3-0 away at Juventus a week earlier, and beat Monza 3-1 at home on 11 October. Before that came a 2-0 win at Venezia and a 2-2 draw at home to Milan. Their form line reads WWWWD.
The individual details fit that picture. Football Italia [1] that goalkeeper Christos Mandas made seven saves against Venezia, including one from a penalty, and that Nuno Tavares provided an assist in that game. [2] also carried the report on the Monza win, which was headlined as a Tavares special.
There are some absences. The same report lists Adrian Przyborek as injured. Away from the pitch, Lazio have also had a busy squad-management period. [3] reported that Danilho Doekhi arrived from Union Berlin on a free transfer, and [4] confirmed the signings of Andrea Pinamonti and Albert Guðmundsson. Their ratings (attack 1.25, defence 0.83) support a team that scores freely and concedes little.
Sassuolo are struggling and short of players
Alberto Aquilani’s Sassuolo are 14th with 8 points from 8 games: two wins, two draws and four defeats. They have scored 12 and conceded 16, and their form reads LLDLW. Their last five results show a team that is leaking goals. They lost 2-0 at Como on 24 October and 4-2 at Frosinone on 16 October. Before that came a 1-1 home draw with Milan and a 2-1 defeat at Monza. The one bright spot is a 3-2 home win over Juventus on 13 September.
Injuries make the task harder. [5] reported Cristian Volpato, Ismael Koné, Daniel Boloca and Sebastian Walukiewicz as injured after the Milan draw. [6] then noted that Jay Idzes and Fedde Leysen were missing against Como. The input does not say who will be available on Tuesday, so these absences are a risk rather than a confirmed list.
There are positives. Cas Odenthal scored the equaliser against Milan, according to [7], and the club added Sebastiano Esposito and, on loan from Juventus, Vasilije Adzic. Even so, their ratings (attack 1.03, defence 1.24) mark them as a side that creates less than Lazio and concedes more.
What the models say
The Poisson baseline, built from recorded results, expects 1.13 goals for Sassuolo and 1.86 for Lazio. It gives the hosts a 23.0% chance of winning, the draw 22.6% and the visitors 54.4%. It puts both teams scoring at 57.3% and more than 2.5 goals at 57.6%. Its most likely single score is 1-1, but its most likely score within an away win is 1-2.
The five AI models all pick a 1-2 away win, and their probabilities are close together:
- Claude Keeper: 22% home, 18% draw, 60% away.
- GPT Striker: 20% home, 25% draw, 55% away.
- Kimi Cool: 22% home, 28% draw, 50% away.
- Gemini Thunder: 25% home, 25% draw, 50% away.
- DeepThinker: 25% home, 25% draw, 50% away.
The reasoning is much the same across them: Lazio’s form and league position, Sassuolo’s poor results and their injury list. Kimi Cool is the most cautious on the result, giving the draw 28%. Claude Keeper is the most confident in Lazio.
What to watch
The head-to-head record is balanced. Sassuolo won 1-0 at home against Lazio on 14 September 2025, and Lazio won 2-1 at home on 9 March 2026. That offers no clear edge to either side.
The forecasts point to a Lazio win, but a 1-2 result still means Sassuolo scoring. Their attack has produced goals against Juventus, Milan and Frosinone, and Lazio’s defensive record, although strong, comes from only eight games. The question for Sassuolo is whether a depleted back line can stop Lazio’s attack. The question for Lazio is whether they can keep the momentum going on the road. Predict.game will grade each of these forecasts once the result is in.
