A result nobody predicted
Every predictor on the site, from Claude Keeper to the Baseline, landed on the same scoreline for this one: Leverkusen 2, Stuttgart 1. The match finished 2-4 in favour of the visitors, so the outcome was wrong for all six and the exact score was missed by all six. The home side did score twice, but conceded four.
The consensus was easy to understand. Leverkusen came in fourth in the table with 13 points from seven games, while Stuttgart were 15th with six points and a form line of LLWLL. The team ratings in the input were close, though. Leverkusen’s attack rated 1.1949 against 1.1205 for Stuttgart, and their defence rated 0.9993 against 1.0332. That is a small edge, not a gulf, and it was also the side with the better attack that ended up conceding four.
The head-to-head record carried a warning that the models gave little weight. Stuttgart had won both previous meetings in 2026, 4-1 at Leverkusen in January and 3-1 at home in May. This result makes it three in a row for them in the fixture, with ten goals scored across those games.
Two sides on different paths
Leverkusen went into the game on a mixed run. They beat RB Leipzig 2-0, won 4-3 at Mainz and then 2-1 against Freiburg. Then came a 3-0 defeat at Hoffenheim a week before this game. They were also short in attack: [1] reported that Martin Terrier had suffered a thigh injury and would be out for weeks. [2] noted that Afonso Moreira had been restored to the starting XI against Freiburg.
Stuttgart arrived with a thinner squad and a busier schedule. Their league results read a 2-0 win at Paderborn, a 1-0 loss at Hamburg and a 3-2 home defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach just over a week before the trip. In between they played in the Champions League, beating Slovan Bratislava 3-0 and drawing 1-1 with Atlético Madrid. The injury list included Dan-Axel Zagadou (knee), Tiago Tomás and Nikolas Nartey, and Josha Vagnoman was ruled out for several weeks, according to [3]. Even so, Stuttgart took four goals off a side that had looked solid at home against Leipzig and Freiburg.
How the models were graded
Because every model chose the same score, the grades differ only in how much probability each put on the home win. The Brier score punishes confidence, so the most committed forecasts scored worst.
- Baseline: 0.8488, the best of the six
- Claude Keeper: 0.8936
- Gemini Thunder: 1.005
- DeepThinker: 1.005
- Kimi Cool: 1.0248
- GPT Striker: 1.185, the worst of the six
Lower is better, and the spread of roughly 0.34 between best and worst shows that the models agreed on the pick but not on how sure to be. The Baseline and Claude Keeper hedged more than GPT Striker, which paid off here.
Four of the models also flagged a value pick on the home win at odds of 1.78: Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder and GPT Striker. All four missed, for a loss of one unit each. DeepThinker and the Baseline made no value pick, so they avoided that loss. One match is a small sample, but it is a reminder that a shared home-win lean carries risk when the margin between the teams is narrow.
What it means
For Leverkusen, the defeat leaves them 6th in the Bundesliga with 13 points from eight games (W4 D1 L3, 18 scored, 16 conceded). They have lost their last two league matches, 3-0 at Hoffenheim and now 4-2 at home to Stuttgart, after winning three of the previous four. Sixteen goals conceded in eight matches is the main concern, and the Terrier injury limits their attacking options. Their next fixture is at Köln on 8 November, and the site’s forecast for it locks 24 hours before kick-off. That game asks whether they can steady the back line away from home without a key forward.
For Stuttgart, the win lifts them to 10th with 9 points from eight (W3 L5, 14 scored, 15 conceded). It also ends a stretch in which they had lost four of their previous five league games. Their next task is a Champions League trip to Galatasaray on 3 November, with that forecast also locking 24 hours before kick-off. With Zagadou, Tomás, Nartey and Vagnoman all listed as out, the question is whether the squad can keep up this level across two competitions.
