In short

  • Parma 0-0 Udinese: all five models and the baseline picked a winner, so every outcome call was wrong.
  • DeepThinker had the best Brier score (0.7350); GPT Striker had the worst (0.8550).
  • All five value picks lost, for -1.0 each.

A goalless draw nobody forecast

Parma Calcio 1913 and Udinese Calcio finished 0-0, and the draw was the one result none of our forecasters backed. Three of the five models and the baseline leaned towards an away win. Gemini Thunder and DeepThinker both went for a 1-0 home win. No model gave the draw enough weight to name it, so every outcome call was marked wrong and no one landed the exact score.

The pre-match picture explains why a winner was an easy call to make. Both sides arrived in poor form. Udinese had lost five league games in a row, with a form line of LLLLL, and had conceded 18 goals in their first eight matches. Parma had won once in eight, a 2-1 home victory over Genoa on 20 September, and had scored only five goals. When two teams are scoring so rarely, a low-scoring stalemate is a realistic outcome, but the models still picked a side.

The head-to-head record also pointed one way. Parma won both meetings last season, 2-0 on 29 November 2025 and 1-0 at Udinese on 18 April 2026. That history, plus the home ground, probably explains the two 1-0 home calls. The three away picks leaned on Udinese’s marginally stronger attacking rating, 0.9268 against Parma’s 0.687, while the defensive ratings were almost identical at 1.1949 and 1.1912.

How the grades fell

A wrong outcome still produces different Brier scores, because the score depends on how much probability each model put on the draw and on the winner it chose. Lower is better here.

  • DeepThinker: 0.7350 (predicted 1-0 home win)
  • Gemini Thunder: 0.7368 (predicted 1-0 home win)
  • Claude Keeper: 0.7808 (predicted 0-1 away win)
  • Kimi Cool: 0.7808 (predicted 1-2 away win)
  • Baseline: 0.8042 (predicted 0-1 away win)
  • GPT Striker: 0.8550 (predicted 1-2 away win)

The two home-win models scored best, though only narrowly. A 0-0 draw is closer to a home win than to an away win in how the penalty works, because the home models were more cautious about the scoreline they backed. GPT Striker took the heaviest hit, having committed most firmly to an away win. Claude Keeper and Kimi Cool finished level on 0.7808 despite predicting different scorelines.

The value picks did no better. Claude Keeper, Kimi Cool and GPT Striker each flagged the away win at odds of 2.65. Gemini Thunder and DeepThinker each flagged the home win at 2.84. All five lost, for a profit-and-loss of -1.0 apiece. The baseline had no value pick.

What the pre-match news said

The context sheet showed two squads short of options. On the Udinese side, [1] reported that Jakub Piotrowski needed heart surgery for a benign arrhythmia and would be out for around two months. [2] also noted that James Abankwah was injured in the defeat at Torino, the game in which David Alaba made his debut off the bench. A separate [3] report said Udinese were waiting for many players to return from injury.

Parma had their own gaps. [4] listed Hans Nicolussi Caviglia as out for the Torino game. After the defeat at Lazio, [5] listed Pontus Almqvist among the absentees and Nesta Elphege as out after appendicitis. [6] also reported that Parma conceded far too easily against Lazio, with Diego Carlos at fault for two of the goals.

The input does not describe how the match itself unfolded, so we will not guess at chances or shot counts. What the scoreline says is simple: after weeks of leaking goals, both defences held.

What it means

The point leaves both clubs level on five points from nine games, but Udinese hold the better position. They are 17th with a goal difference of -9 (9 scored, 18 conceded), and Parma are 18th at -10 (5 scored, 15 conceded). It is a small gap in a table where one win would change the picture for either side.

For Parma, the draw is the first result in a run of tough games that did not end in a loss. Before it they had lost 0-3 at Inter, 0-3 at home to Torino and 1-2 at Lazio. Their record now reads one win, two draws and six defeats. The next test is a trip to Atalanta on 2 November, and the site’s forecast for that game locks 24 hours before kick-off.

For Udinese, the draw ended a five-match losing run, which included a 0-3 home defeat to Lecce and a 0-2 home loss to AC Milan three days earlier. It was a clean sheet too, after 18 goals conceded in the first eight games. The next fixture asks whether that stability can last against Roma at home on 31 October, with only a short turnaround. Their forecast also locks 24 hours before kick-off.

For the models, the lesson is about low-scoring fixtures between struggling sides. When both teams have poor attacks and shaky form, a draw deserves a larger share of the probability than any one side’s narrow edge.
