3 Important Points today vs Venezia 💙 #Como1907 #SerieA Como 1907 ·

In short

  • Como won 1-0 and moved to 23 points from 10 games, fourth in Serie A; Venezia stay 20th on 3 points.
  • All six forecasters predicted 2-0 and got the outcome right; none hit the exact score.
  • The Baseline had the best Brier score (0.0841) and DeepThinker the worst (0.14).

A narrow win that matched the script

Como 1907 beat Venezia FC 1-0 on 1 November, the result almost everyone expected, though with less comfort than the forecasts suggested. The home side arrived in strong form. They had won at Fiorentina, beaten Sassuolo 2-0 at home, and then won 3-1 at Torino on 27 October. The pre-match sheet gave them an attack rating of 1.345 and a defence rating of 0.7461, with 17 goals scored and 8 conceded after nine games.

Venezia were the opposite. They had lost four of their last five, the exception being a 1-0 home win over Napoli, and they came in with one win from nine, a goals record of 6 for and 19 against, and 20th place. Their attack rating of 0.7051 was the weakest figure on the page. The gap in the numbers was wide, so a home win was the obvious call.

The margin is the interesting part. A side averaging nearly two goals a game scored once, and the visitors, who had managed no goals in their previous two matches, were again kept out. The input carries no detail on how the winning goal came, so we won’t describe it. What the record shows is a team that did enough to take three points against a struggling opponent without putting the game out of reach.

How the forecasters graded

Every forecaster, the Baseline included, predicted a 2-0 home win. That meant six correct outcomes and six missed exact scores, because the match finished one goal short. The separation came entirely from the probabilities behind the pick, measured by Brier score, where lower is better.

  • Baseline: 0.0841
  • Claude Keeper: 0.0896
  • Gemini Thunder: 0.0950
  • GPT Striker: 0.0950
  • Kimi Cool: 0.1208
  • DeepThinker: 0.1400

The Baseline came out best, which is a fair reminder that a simple, measured forecast can beat more confident ones when the favourite wins by the smallest margin. Claude Keeper was the best of the model entries. Gemini Thunder and GPT Striker tied. DeepThinker’s 0.14 shows it was the least confident of the group in the home win, or placed the most weight on other results.

The value picks split. Kimi Cool, Gemini Thunder, GPT Striker and DeepThinker each backed the home side at odds of 1.30, and each returned +0.3. Claude Keeper took a different market, the over on totals at 1.39. With only one goal scored, it missed and lost 1.0. The baseline made no value pick. It is a small sample, but it illustrates how a correct 2-0 forecast can still sit beside a losing totals bet.

Venezia’s problems go beyond the scoreline

Venezia’s season has been hit by instability and absences. [1] reported that Davide Nicola is now head coach. His first game in charge was a win over Napoli, followed by a 1-0 defeat at Genoa. Before that, [2] had noted that Giovanni Stroppa kept his job after the 3-1 loss at Atalanta, a reprieve that did not last.

The injury list is long. [3] listed Marin Šverko, Thierry Correia, Andrea Adorante and Bartol Franjić as long-term absentees after the 2-0 home loss to Inter. Armel Bella-Kotchap was also reported out earlier in the month. That removes depth across the squad and goes some way to explaining a record of one win in ten.

The visitors did show some resilience. They lost by a single goal rather than conceding repeatedly, after shipping 19 in their first nine league games. With a new coach and a thin squad, that is a modest improvement. It did not earn points, and for a side on 3 points from 10 games, the table gives little credit for narrow defeats.

What it means

For Como, the win lifts them to 23 points from 10 games (W7 D2 L1, 18 goals for and 8 against), fourth in Serie A. The form line now reads five straight wins in all competitions, including the 4-1 Champions League win over Manchester United on 21 October. The only league defeat so far is still the 2-0 loss at Frosinone in September. The defence has conceded eight in ten, which is the part of the profile that holds up best when the goals are slower to come, as they were here.

The next fixture changes the question. Como travel to Lens on 4 November in the Champions League, and the site’s forecast for that match locks 24 hours before kick-off. Against Venezia the test was whether the better side could turn control into a result, and it did. At Lens the test is whether a fourth-placed Serie A side can keep that rhythm away from home against stronger opposition, with only three days between matches.

For Venezia, the position is stark: 20th, 3 points from 10, six goals scored and 20 conceded. Their next match is at home to Udinese on 6 November, again with a forecast that locks 24 hours before kick-off. After defeats to Genoa, Inter and Como without scoring, the first question is simply whether they can find a goal.
